Packaging Materials + Shredded Paper

The Basics of Shred Packaging

When using paper shred as the base of a gift basket, there is no need to completely fill the container. Use packing peanuts or newsprint paper at the bottom where it cannot be seen, and add a layer of paper shred to the top. (This will help you save money and your shred supply!) Now that most of the void has been filled, top off with your choice of colored shred.

Use Shred for Shipped Packages

Paper shred doesn't only have to be used for arrangements available in your store. Shred filler can also be used for any gift packages that are going to be shipped by mail. In fact, gift packages are way more memorable when customers open them up and see that colored paper shred is what kept their package intact.

Helpful Hints

  • Be sure to P-U-L-L the shred to "fluff it up" before putting it into a basket. The shred is packaged very tightly to take up as little space as possible on your shelf and to save money on shipping. You can greatly increase the yield of a bag of shred by loosening it up before use.
  • If you choose to add a layer of newsprint paper at the bottom of the container, choose clean newsprint that has not been printed. You can often get this surplus from your local newspaper. Clean newsprint is, well, cleaner . . . and it looks more professional.
  • If you use packing peanuts, line the container with economy tissue and encase the peanuts in the tissue. This will prevent the packing peanuts from rising up through the shred during shipping.
