In the small backroom of a wholesale florist, Maxine Burton started a revolution . . .

The year was 1982, and Maxine was working at Flowers, Inc. Wholesale, a floral distributor co-owned by her husband, Bob. Silver foil balloons had just been invented, and floral customers were starting to request them. Maxine soon realized that the balloon imprinting process could be used to print a message or design on a balloon, creating a floating greeting card–a concept that would soon transform the floral industry and lead her to found Flowers, Inc. Balloons®. Her ingenuity has taken the company from a backroom start-up to The TOTAL balloon experience™ and the TOTAL gift experience®. Combined, Maxine has created The World’s Largest Balloon and Coordinating Gift Supplier®.

In 2006, Flowers, Inc. Balloons® changed its name to burton + BURTON® to represent the extensive inventory of balloons, floral supplies, coordinating gifts, and home décor the company offers.

Maxine + Bob Burton

Elevating Women in Business

Since Maxine H. Burton, Founder and President, established burton + BURTON® over 40 years ago, she has taken pride in elevating women's careers. Her beloved mother, Emma Lou Hubbard, was by her side from the start, and today her daughter, Rachael Burton Dillon, serves as Chief Executive Officer.

Maxine is proud the company has become nationally certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) by the WBENC, a leading non-profit dedicated to supporting women-owned business. She will continue investing in women's careers and is determined to pass along the wisdom and support to the next generation of women business leaders.

Giving Back: Community + Philanthropy

Charity is a huge part of burton + BURTON’S mission. We believe it is every company’s duty to give back to its community. The Burtons and the entire employee family lend our support to a diverse group of organizations including 4-H, the American Heart Associations’ Heart Walk, and Toys For Tots^SM.

In 2018, we introduced the Weaving Hope project, which provides schools and feeding programs for children in Rwanda through the sale of handmade baskets crafted by a women’s collective in the village of Gitarama.

The Balloon Showcase™ is an opportunity to explore the magic of balloons on a grand scale! Your imagination will take flight while experiencing hundreds of thousands of balloons used to create over-the-top displays. Take a picture with these magnificent creations as a backdrop to commemorate the moment. This event, for adults and children alike, also serves as a voluntary fundraiser for several charitable organizations.

In August of 2022, burton + BURTON® hosted the inaugural Balloon Showcase™ displaying the breathtaking designs created at Ballooniversity®. Over 4,000 people from the local Athens, Georgia, community came to view more than 400,000 balloons. The showcase was free to the public, and all patrons were invited to donate to two local charities.

100% of the proceeds raised went directly to The Boys & Girls Clubs of Athens and Extra Special People (ESP). The amount contributed was $6,000, with a match of $6,000 from burton + BURTON, for a total of $12,000 in donations. Each charity received a $6,000 check.

Showrooms

burton + BURTON® maintains three permanent showrooms across the country, including one on-site at the corporate headquarters in Bogart, Georgia. The three showrooms total over 25,000 square feet of space. Collections and seasonal displays are arranged by the company's own visual merchandising team for customers and markets throughout the year.

burton + BURTON's headquarters consists of 171,000 feet of warehouse, showroom, and office space. In addition to the main building and warehouse, the company has four additional warehouses to house its off-site operations, for a total of approximately 300,000 square feet of space.
