Grosgrain Colors

The color of the grosgrain ribbon changes your design or display dramatically. For example, a solid color presents a more traditional feel, while something like a striped ribbon or a design printed ribbon has a more festive feel to it. And when it comes to some popular uses for grosgrain ribbons like scrapbooking, gift wrap, or hair bows, color can make a huge difference.

F.A.Q.s Related to Grosgrain Ribbon

What is Grosgrain Ribbon?

Do you know that heavy, ribbed fabric that makes a zooshing sound when you run your fingernails across the material? Grosgrain ribbon is what you're picturing. And, those vertical ribs that run across the surface are its hallmark trait.

Traditionally, grosgrain ribbon has been made from wool, mohair, or silk. Today, you'll also find some made out of nylon, as well. Some versions of the fabric combine all three materials, while others utilize a different mixture.

Nonetheless, this composition makes the ribbon much sturdier than the typical decorative ribbon. And that means that grosgrain ribbon has a much more diverse set of applications than its cousin ribbons such as scrapbooking, or hair bows.

What is Grosgrain Ribbon Used For?

The most obvious use for grosgrain ribbon is gift wrapping. Due to its sturdiness, you can be sure that your gift will arrive at the intended recipient in pristine condition.

You can also use a grosgrain ribbon to decorate hair as the material lends itself easily to bow-tying. Other uses include decorating flower bouquets, floral arrangements, and table centerpieces.

Grosgrain ribbon is also useful around the house. You can attach it right to the back of a picture frame and hang it from a simple nail or a hook. Or, use it to decorate the edges of your family corkboard.

There's no shortage of uses for this multi-tasking ribbon.

How to clean grosgrain ribbon?

You clean grosgrain ribbon the same way you would clean your favorite hair bow. First, combine 1 cup of water with your favorite stain remover of choice. Next, place the ribbon in the solution. Depending on the severity of the stains you may want to gently scrub the ribbon. Finally, let the ribbon soak for 10 to 15 minutes. Air dry only!

How to curl grosgrain ribbon?

Using a clothespin, attach your ribbon to one end of a long, slender rod. Wrap your ribbon around the rod until it reaches the other end. Use another clothespin at the other end to keep the ribbon on the rod. Preheat your oven to 275 degrees. When the oven is preheated, set your ribbon inside of the oven on a cookie sheet and set a timer for 20 minutes. Of course, if you have plenty of clothespins and rods you can do as many as you want that will fit on one cookie sheet. After the 20 minutes are up, pull your ribbon out of the oven on the cookie sheet and let it cool. When it's done cooling, pull the ribbon off of the rod, and there's your curled grosgrain ribbon!
